Raw Honey

Honey is a remarkable viscous liquid, prepared by bees from the nectars of various plants. Dad's Bees honey comes straight from the extractor; It is unheated, pure, unpasturised and unprocessed.

Most of the honey found in the supermarket is not raw honey but "commercial" regular honey which has been heated followed by rapid cooling, it is also finely filtered to make it look clearer and smoother. This makes it more appealing on the shelf and easier to handle and package.

Our honey is strained to only remove some of the larger pieces of wax that fall in during extraction. This ensures pollen and most of the nutrients including vitamins, enzymes and trace minerals are retained.

Types of honey

Honey comes in many colours and can range from near white through yellow, yellow-green, gold, amber, dark brown or red to even black. Usually a lighter colour will indicate a milder flavour, while darker honey is customarily more robust and contains more minerals. Texture can also vary from thin to heavy.

Dad's Bees honey comes in various shades and flavours depending on when it was harvested.

Local Honey

Local honey produced by bees which are from the environment in which you live and work.

Dad's Bees honey comes from hives in the local Derbyshire area. It therefore contains specific pollen from plants growing in this local area. Local honey contains minute quantities of pollen from local plants.

Health Benefits

Honey is composed of sugars including glucose and fructose and trace minerals like Magnesium, Potassium, Calcium, Sodium, Chlorine, Sulphur, Iron, and phosphate. It also contains the vitamins B1, B2, C, B6, B5 and B3 all of which change according to the qualities of the nectar and pollen. Beside the above, Copper, Iodine and Zinc exist in honey in small quantities.

Researchers are not absolutely sure why honey does what it does but they are learning new things about honey every day.
